Sheldon,Iowa– A grant has been awarded to help pay for a batting cage in Sheldon.
The city of Sheldon was recently awarded a grant of $5,000 to be put towards a brand new batting cage at the Sheldon Sports Complex. Jake Kerr, The City of Sheldon’s Recreational Director, gives more info on what to expect
(as said) “It’s gonna be 70ft long, but yeah, this batting cage primarily gonna be able to used for our recreation programs. As well as the Sheldon Middle School programs too.”
Kerr then reveals that one batting cage isn’t all we should expect.
(as said) “It’s actually two batting cages is what it is.”
That’s right, two 70-foot-long batting cages are coming to Sheldon. Kerr then reveals why he decided a batting cage was needed.
(as said)“This actually was brought up to me by a lot of our coaches and parents that are in the Sheldon Rec programs, so I felt a need that this would be a good opportunity to get that at our Sheldon Sports Complex.”
However, the money from the grant won’t be able to cover the full cost of the batting cage.
(as said) “That money is just going towards the frame and the net. We’ll be looking to try to find other avenues to get more of the money for the batting cage because there’s accessories and other things that still need to be get.”
The frame and the net will be set up by at least this fall, then the Recreation Division will explore more ways to get the money by fundraising or grants so the rest can be ready by the spring.
