Granville Fire Department Gets Over $300,000 In Federal Grants

Granville, Iowa — The Granville Fire Department has received two federal grants recently — one for a breathing air system, and one for a new fire truck.

Granville Fire Chief Karl Kellen tells us more.

He says it will give them more air storage and will allow them to fill their Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (or SCBA) tanks safely. But the $42,000 grant is actually the smaller of the two grants. The other one is for a fire truck.

Fire officials tell us the over a quarter-of-a-million-dollar grant will go to purchase the first new truck in 27 years for the Granville Fire Department. The new tanker will be state-of-the art with all the latest safety features.

Kellen says the City of Granville does have to supply a ten percent cost share for both projects.

Both grants are from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance To Firefighters Grant program, which was started after the 9/11 attacks. Kellen says they hired a grant writer last year which helped them receive these grants, and a $75,000 grant last year to replace their SCBA units.
