Lake Park, Iowa – The Harris-Lake Park School Board is looking at options following a major failure of the boiler system Friday at the elementary building. The issue was discussed at an emergency school board meeting this past Saturday afternoon.
A notification to district patrons from Superintendent Mike Thompson says they’ve been told by facilities and safety experts that the building currently isn’t safe to be occupied by students and faculty. It goes on to say they are exploring possible options and that in the meantime, there will be no school on Monday, January 5th, for all Pre-school through 12th grade students.
The notice goes on to say that there’s a potential for additional days of no school, adding “district leadership and the school board are actively working to ensure continuity of learning while prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff.”
District officials say they will remain in close communication with additional updates as they become available.
