Health Foundation Raising Funds For New Ambulance Through GoFundMe

Orange City, Iowa — A northwest Iowa hospital is raising money for a new ambulance in a different kind of way — through a GoFundMe page on the internet.

Orange City’s ambulance service is different from many in northwest Iowa. Most cities or counties own their ambulances, but in Orange City, they’re owned by the Orange City Area Health System, which is a political subdivision of the City of Orange City, with separate financials and budgets.

Orange City Area Health System CEO Marty Guthmiller tells us about the unique way to raise funds for a new unit.

Many cities and counties use tax revenue as well as service charges to help pay for ambulances. Guthmiller says taxes are not part of the equation for Orange City’s ambulance service.

He says that in years past, the operation of the ambulance was enough to support its acquisition. He says that is no longer the case. Guthmiller tells us that they are asking for support for this new ambulance from the City of Orange City, and several corporations, as well as the GoFundMe portion, which is so individuals can contribute. Guthmiller tells us they’re also doing a “Tip Night.”

He tells us that it’s also a great opportunity for the public to show their appreciation for the ambulance service and the ambulance team.

Guthmiller tells us that they will be replacing the older of their two ambulances, which has over 200,000 miles on it.

They tell us the goal is to purchase a new Ford E-450 ambulance that includes high-end features for enhanced safety, reliability and patient comfort.
