Highway 9 Construction Planned

Lake Park, Iowa — A heads-up if your travels take you east of our area on Iowa Highway 9.

The intersection of M34 and Highway 9 is under construction. Crews are re-doing the intersection, and while that takes place, it is closed to traffic.

They plan to remove the old concrete and while replacing the intersection, make it larger.

With good weather, the intersection is scheduled to reopen on Monday or Tuesday, October 24th or 25th.

However, the Iowa Department of Transportation is planning some work in that area as well. According to construction engineer Darwin Bishop, there is work planned in November between County Road M20 near Lake Park and US 71 in Spirit Lake. There will be single-line traffic in alternating directions due to the road construction work. We are told the traffic will be directed by flaggers. A pilot car will be in operation, and a width limit of 14 feet will be in effect.

That work on Highway 9 is set to start on November 1, 2016 and is hoped to be completed by November 15.
