HLP Issues Another Update Regarding Classes Following Elementary Boiler Issue

Lake Park, Iowa — The Harris-Lake Park School District issued an update Tuesday morning regarding the resumption of classes on Wednesday. From Wednesday until the construction of the new elementary building is completed, pre-school, TK, and kindergarten students will attend classes at the Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Grades 1-5 will be housed at the middle school/high school. Sixth through twelfth grades will continue in that building, too, as usual.

District officials say there will be a bus stop outside the main entrance of the current elementary at 8:05 am. Students will then be transported to their respective locations. They add that there will be NO access into the building due to a lack of heat, with the boiler inoperable.

Drop-off and pick-ups for 1st-5th grades will be at the north entrance of the middle school/high school, with 6th-12th grades at the south entrance of that facility.

All families are asked to provide sack lunches from Wednesday through Friday of this week for their students. The district will begin serving hot lunches on Monday, January 12th, at the respective locations.

District officials add that the elementary building has been deemed safe for students and staff to access materials, and that students will be bused to the location later this week to gather their belongings. They should be sure to have backpacks.

The temporary locations for elementary students will remain in place until it’s time to move into the new elementary school. That’s expected to occur sometime in the coming weeks. District officials say they’ll issue another update when they know the date.
