HMS Group To Try Bond Issue Again

Hartley, Iowa — Voters in the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Community School District will be going to the polls again in April to decide the fate of another bond issue, this one for $18.9 million.

We talked to Jill Kunzman, who is on the Citizens For HMS group. She tells us the while the bond issue will be very similar to those in past years, there are some differences.

She tells us that while the price has gone up, there is some good news for taxpayers.

She says there are some other items that will be included this time.

Kunzman tells us about the proposal.

She says their duty is to inform the public.

She says that contrary to popular belief, enrollment is not declining at HMS. She says planning information from the state that school districts use to plan for the future indicates the exact opposite, actually.

Kunzman says they’re not focusing on doom and gloom, but rather on the positives.

She says that morning coffees, evening group meetings, service club meetings, and vendor show appearances are being planned at which people can find out more. You can also find out more online at bondissue.org/hms. In fact, Kunzman says there’s a tool on the site in which you can enter your assessed property value and it will tell you how the bond issue would affect your tax bill.

The bond issue election is on April 3rd.
