Spencer Student Charged With Threatening School Violence

Spencer, Iowa — A Spencer High School student faces a felony charge in the wake of an investigation into threats made against the school.

Spencer Police Chief Mark Warburton says his department investigated a report of threats directed at the Spencer High School on Wednesday, March 7th.  Warburton says that during the investigation it was determined that a Spencer High School student had posted threats on SnapChat of school violence to be carried out at a later date.

Warburton says Spencer Police searched the student’s residence, and found no weapons or other types of planning materials.

He says the student was transported to the Youth Emergency Services Detention Center in Cherokee and charged with Threat of Terrorism, a Class D Felony.

The Chief says there is no evidence of any ongoing threat against Spencer Schools.
