UPDATE: URGENT Need For Blood; Drive Today

UPDATE: Despite the poor road conditions and school closings, not only is the Heroes Behind The Badges Blood Drive still happening at the Sheldon Community Services Center — they could really use your help. Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg says they are in CRITICAL need for blood. He says donations are down 35 percent. They’re there until 1:30 this afternoon and then again from 3 to 5.

Sheldon, Iowa — It’s time for the second part of the twelfth annual Heroes Behind The Badges Blood Drive in Sheldon.

Ken Versteeg, the Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank tells us that the drive is a friendly competition between teams of Sheldon emergency responders.

Versteeg says that last year, the team of the Sheldon Police Department and Sheldon Community Ambulance Team edged out the team of the Sheldon Fire Company and Sheldon Emergency Management.

The idea is that each pint of blood is worth one donation vote, says Versteeg. Plus, says Versteeg, when you give blood, you save up to three lives — so you become a hero as well.

The second and final part of the drive will take place on Monday, February 25th, says Versteeg.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 years old with a signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weigh 110 pounds or more, and be in good general health. They’d also like you to have a form of ID on you, a list of any medications you are on, and a list of any countries and/or cities you have visited outside of the United States in the last three years.

For more information, you can visit www.cbblifeblood.org.
