Hope Haven CEO Hopeful They Can Play A Role In Helping Glenwood Clients

Rock Valley, Iowa — Last week, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced that the Glenwood Resource Center will close by 2024. The CEO of a facility for persons with disabilities in northwest Iowa says that might have an effect in our area.

The Glenwood Resource Center is a state-run facility in the southwest Iowa town of Glenwood that provides residential care for Iowans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Governor Reynolds has said that some residents will be transferred to a similar state facility in Woodward, but most will be placed in privately-run facilities, with the state covering the cost of care.

Matt Buley, who is the CEO of Rock Valley-based Hope Haven tells us what role the Glenwood facility plays.

We asked Buley what he thought about the Glenwood closing plan.

Buley says that while it might be difficult at first at the personal level, it will generally be a good thing for the residents of Glenwood.

He says there has also been some frustration in the industry about the level of funding going to Glenwood.

Buley tells us he’s been hearing good news from the legislature as well as far as funding for disability services and community providers like Hope Haven.

The Glenwood facility is set to close in mid-2024.
