Northwest Iowa — This weekend is forecast to be an unseasonably hot one, with high temperatures Saturday and Sunday hovering at, or near, the 100-degree mark.
Mike Gillispie is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, and he explains why we’ll be seeing such hot temperatures this weekend.
These temperatures are not unheard of for this time of year in our area. Official weather records for Sheldon show that the mercury rose to 103-degrees on June 10, 1953, and 99-degrees on June 11, 1926. Gillispie says that, even though it’s not undheard of, if the high temperature reaches the century mark this weekend, it will be in the Top 10 Earliest 100-Degree Days.
He says that, while the humidity levels will be reasonably low, and the wind fairly strong, this weekend, you should still take precautions if you need to spend time outside.
