House Near Sioux Center Destroyed In Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa – An unoccupied house was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 near Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief Dave Van Holland, about 9:40 AM, the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of an unoccupied house on fire on a place owned by Harold Kuiken, at 3987 Ibex Avenue, three miles east of Highway 75 and B40 in Sioux Center, and just a little bit north on Ibex Avenue, just north of Sandy Hollow.

The chief says the fire department saw that the house was fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used water to extinguish the fire.

Van Holland reports that there were no injuries to people, pets, or livestock.

The fire department requested the Hull Fire Department to assist with a tanker of water to fight the fire.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be accidental.

Chief Van Holland reports that the house was totally destroyed.

He says they used four to five thousand gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene about two hours. However, the department was called back to the scene to extinguish hot spots about 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening.
