Plymouth County, Iowa — A hunter and his dog were rescued Saturday morning after falling into the Big Sioux River near Akron.
According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 10:00 am Saturday, they received a call of a hunter and his dog that had fallen into the Big Sioux River near Boyd’s Bend access north of Akron.
About 15 minutes later, Plymouth County Deputies arrived on scene to find the hunter and his dog stuck in the water, unable to get out of the river due to the tall embankment. Deputies and an Akron firefighter were able to pull the hunter and his dog from the water, according to authorities.
Deputies say the hunter was transported to the Hawarden Hospital by Akron Ambulance for possible hypothermia.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Akron Fire Department and Akron Ambulance.
Authorities say the hunter is expected to make a full recovery with no injuries.
