Ireton Firefighters Put Out Grass Fire

Fire Department Grass RigIreton, Iowa– Ireton firefighters responded to a fire call on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 near Ireton.

According to Ireton Fire Chief Richard Steckelberg, about 3:20 PM, the Ireton Fire Department was called to the report of a burn pile fire that had burned out of control at an acrage on Garfield Avenue just north of 510th Street, about three miles south and four miles east of Ireton.

The chief says the fire department saw burn pile, grass, and a field all on fire as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire and didn’t need to call in tillage equipment. He says they used two grass rigs to fight the fire.

Steckelberg says no injuries were reported.

Chief Steckelberg reports that since no trees burned and there was no crop in the field, there was minimal damage.

He says they used 3000 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about 45 minutes.
