ISU Extension & Outreach To Host Slow Cooker Workshop

Orange City, Iowa — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Sioux County will host “Healthy & Homemade: Slow Cooker Meals” on Tuesday, March 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at their office located at 400 Central Ave. NW in Orange City. The program is open to the public, but preregistration is required to plan for adequate supplies

“Healthy & Homemade: Slow Cooker Meals” will focus on practical aspects of planning for healthy eating, cooking, and saving time and money while using the slow cooker. Recipes, tasting, and hands-on activities are included.

Renee Sweers, Human Sciences Specialist in Food and Health with ISU Extension and Outreach, will lead the program. She says the slow cooker is a kitchen time saver that can also be a way to save money and eat healthy.

The program will discuss recipes and ingredients that convert well to slow cooking and food safety while using the slow cooker.

According to Sweers, studies have shown that meals cooked at home tend to be healthier.

Those interested in participating in the Slow Cooker Meals program should register online at https://go.iastate.edu/RCEGJR. Registration fee is $10, and includes recipes, food tasting and hands-on resources.
