Just 5 New Cases Of COVID In Four-County Area Saturday

Northwest Iowa — Just five new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the four-county area of O’Brien, Osceola, Lyon and Sioux Counties Saturday, with two of the counties reporting no new cases.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, new cases were reported in Sioux County, where three new cases brought their total number to 4,270 since the pandemic began, and two in Osceola County which brought their total to 606 cases. O’Brien County remained at a total of 1,568 total cases, while Lyon County held tight at 1,221 cases since the pandemic began.

There have been 122 COVID-related deaths of northwest Iowans since the pandemic began. Osceola County has had seven deaths. Lyon County’s death toll is 24, Sioux’s is 41, and O’Brien’s is 50.

Of the 1,221 Lyon County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, 1031 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 84%.
Of the 4,270 Sioux County residents to test positive, 3742 have recovered, for a rate of about 88%.
Of the 1,568 O’Brien County residents who have tested positive, 1312 have recovered, for a rate of about 84%.
Of the 606 Osceola County residents who tested positive for COVID-19, 528 have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 87%.

These numbers, released by the Iowa Department of Public Health, cover the 24-hour period between noon Christmas day and noon Saturday, December 26th.
