Kidnapping Suspect Waives Right To Jury Trial

Northwest Iowa — In northwest Iowa court news:

The woman who is accused of kidnapping her children and prompting the issuance of an Amber Alert has waived her right to a trial by jury.

Authorities say 25-year old Danica Arzaga is accused of taking her children from Royal in September. The girls were found okay in Sanborn that same day. She faces three counts of Kidnapping in the Third Degree, all Class “C” Felonies.

A Rock Valley man facing a first-degree theft charge had a preliminary hearing this week. An arraignment date was set at the hearing.

According to court records, a Sioux Center Police officer states that at about 11 p.m. on Friday, October 6th, 31-year-old John Lamfers of Rock Valley allegedly entered the Rent-All parking lot in Sioux Center after business hours. It says he was allegedly an accomplice in taking a car trailer and a skid loader, valued at a combined total of $37,000. The document notes that Lamfers was allegedly caught in the act. He was charged with first-degree theft, trespassing, and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

Arraignment in Lamfers’ case is scheduled for Monday, November 13th.
