KIWA Radio Off Air While New FM Antenna Finished Today

Sheldon, Iowa — The new antenna for KIWA FM 105.3 will be completed today.

Finally after weeks of operating at low power due to a lightning strike in early August, the new antenna array will be finished on the top of the tower. In order to finish, KIWA AM 1550/FM 100.7 and KIWA FM 105.3 will be off air most of the day for the safety of the crew putting in the new parts.

You can still listen to KIWA FM 105.3 on the online stream.

Sheldon, Iowa — If you’ve had problems listening to KIWA-FM 105.3 in recent weeks, the issue is due to a lightning strike at our tower site.

KIWA Chief Operator Justin Hellinga explains.

Hellinga says we’re still running at very low power until a new antenna can be built, shipped to KIWA, and installed.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hellinga says, if all goes well, the antenna should arrive in Sheldon early next week.

Although the antenna for 105.3-FM is the only one on the tower to be damaged, Hellinga says the installation of the new antenna will require taking AM-1550 and FM-100.7, along with 105.3-FM, off the air to complete the installation.

Hellinga says that, as always, you can hear FM-105.3’s programming, live, 24/7, by streaming the audio from our website. Just click HERE for KIWA-FM 105.3 programming.
