Sheldon, Iowa — A donation from a local media outlet has put the Sheldon Community School-Northwest Iowa Community College Turf Project $10,000 closer to its $1.4 million goal.
Orab AD Eric Maassen announced the $10,000 donation from KIWA Radio in support of the project on Friday.
Sheldon Broadcasting Company, Inc. President Walt Pruiksma says KIWA celebrated its 60th anniversary this year, and as part of that wanted to give back to the community. Pruiksma says, “The Sheldon Community School District has done so much for us over the years.” He says KIWA wanted to return the favor.
The turf upgrade on the high school football field is a collaborative project between the Sheldon Community Schools, Northwest Iowa Community College, and the City of Sheldon. The new playing surface will be used for the Orab football team, soccer program, and the marching band. Additionally, Northwest Iowa Community College will be utilizing the grounds when they begin their intercollegiate soccer program, which is slated to begin in Fall 2024.
The goal is to have fundraising completed before the end of this month. Groundbreaking for the project is slated to begin next Spring, with use by the Sheldon Community Schools in the fall of next year.
