Salt Lake City, UT / Des Moines, Iowa — A convenience store chain that used to have locations in Sheldon, Sioux Center, and many more northwest Iowa communities has been sold to another chain.
Maverik – Adventure’s First Stop, together with its parent company, FJ Management, has announced the acquisition of Kum & Go, a family-owned convenience store chain with over 400 locations across 13 states, from Krause Group. As part of the transaction, officials tell us that Maverik will also acquire Solar Transport, a tank truck carrier and logistic provider owned by the Krause Group. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Officials say that the combination of Maverik and Kum & Go “creates a best-in-class convenience store operator across the Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions with a differentiated value proposition across fuel, food service, and inside store offerings.”
The transaction is expected to close in the coming months and is subject to customary closing provisions.
The west Casey’s store in Sheldon at the four-way stop on Highway 18 and Business 60 used to be a Kum & Go, and for a time, the former SuperAmerica location across the street east was one too. Sioux Center also had a Kum & Go on Highway 75 downtown. Now the nearest locations are in Adrian, Minnesota; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and in the Iowa Great Lakes area.
