Kurtz: What To Do If Pulled Over By An Unmarked Patrol Vehicle

Northwest Iowa — Recently the Iowa State Patrol announced that they would be putting more unmarked patrol vehicles on the roads to aid in the enforcement of the new distracted driving law that went into effect just over a year ago.

Some people are a little nervous about pulling over for an unmarked vehicle, and worry that the person pulling them over might not be a real law enforcement officer. Iowa State Patrol Trooper Vince Kurtz offers some advice on what to do when the red and blue lights on an unmarked patrol car begin flashing in your rearview mirror.

Trooper Kurtz says since the new distracted driving law has gone into effect, citations for the offense have increased dramatically.

Kurtz says the Iowa State Patrol is committed to lowering drastically the number of motorists who are texting and driving. He reminds drivers that their most important job when behind the wheel is driving. He advises you to buckle up, put the phone down, obey the speed limit, and arrive at your destination safely.
