Lester, Iowa– A house was saved from fire on Thursday, September 15, 2016 near Lester.
According to Lester Fire Chief Morris Metzger, about 11:13 AM, the Lester Fire Department was called to the report of possible house fire at the home of Wes Moser at 2245 Iowa 9 Street, a half mile west of Lester on Highway 9.
The chief says the home had been struck by a significant lightning strike, and there was smoke in the house. He says no injuries were reported.
Metzger says crews were on scene for about two hours checking for hot spots, but that no actual flame was found. He says after they made sure the house was safe, they turned it over to the electricians. He says it could have been a lot worse.
