Local O’Brien County Cancer Group Gives Thousands To Help People Fight Cancer

Sheldon, Iowa — The local cancer fighters group has been able to give thousands of dollars to fight against cancer recently.

The group Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County tells us they were recently able to deliver a total of $22,500 to six area organizations that help people fight cancer.

Receiving donations were Sanford Health in Sheldon, Sioux Falls, and Worthington; Mercy One in Primghar; the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer; and the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City. Officials with Conquering Cancer 4 O’Brien County tell us the Checks are being used to help those battling cancer in O’Brien County, and that is being done through the use of gas cards, food cards, cancer screenings, or any other assistance they may need. They tell us the committee has done many fundraisers such as 2024 calendars with sponsors, a Pizza Ranch Tip Night, bake sales, garage sales and the group’s first annual golf tournament.

On the committee are Jo Holles, Pam Thornton, Sheryl Storm, Cindy Rungers, Geri Jacobs, Mary Klein, Tom Traughber, and Deana Cleppe. They ask everyone to help them support those battling cancer.

They also tell us they are having a bake sale on Saturday, December 2nd at the Sheldon Hy-Vee from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
