Lottery Smashes Records As People Play During Pandemic

Clive, Iowa — The Iowa Lottery has broken several records already with the information for June yet to come in for the end of the fiscal year. Lottery CEO, Matt Strawn, says the amount of money turned over to the state set one of the records.

Strawn says the proceeds are well past the record 92-point-eight million dollars for a full 12-month fiscal year.

He says that is a double-digit increase.

He says prize payouts increased along with sales.

Strawn says the pandemic is behind the massive increase in sales.

The increase in tickets sales was driven by the sale of scratch tickets — which has surpassed 300 million dollars through May.
