Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Says Don’t Travel; More Flooding To Come

Rock Rapids, Iowa — Flooding continues to cause multiple issues in northwest Iowa.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has released a statement:

“The US National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has informed us that we expect about 2-5 more inches of rain overnight. They expect the river to crest at 25.3 ft between 7-8 am tomorrow in Rock Rapids which is just below the record of 27 ft. We expect heavy rain at around 8pm tonight and severe weather from 5-10 pm. Plans for shelter are being made and will be made available if needed. Sheriff Vander Stoep advises to use caution when traveling, but especially after 8pm. We are expecting numerous roads to go underwater during the overnight, so we are asking everyone to not travel unless necessary. If you know people who are in areas that may be at risk of flooding, please reach out to them and make sure they have an evacuation plan.”
