Man Dies In Early Sunday Accident In Sutherland

Sutherland, Iowa — One man has died as the result of a crash in Sutherland early on Sunday, May 20, 2018.

According to the Sutherland Police Department, their officer was called to an accident on East Birch Street in the City of Sutherland, about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. They report that a vehicle was found caught up on the south guardrail. They say that the driver, 41-year-old Daniel Ray Wetherell, was found at the bottom of the creek emerged under water. The Sutherland Police officer started CPR.

They report that the Sutherland Ambulance took Wetherell to Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar where he was later pronounced dead.

The Sutherland Police Department says that there is no foul play suspected. They say the investigation continues at this time.

They tell us that Sutherland Fire and Rescue, Calumet Fire and Rescue, and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response to the crash.

Sutherland, Iowa — One man has died as the result of a crash in Sutherland early on Sunday, May 20, 2018.

The Sutherland City Office reports that the crash occurred in the early morning hours on East Birch Street in northeastern Sutherland.

They advise that the crash involved Murray Creek as well. City officials say that while the investigation is still ongoing, the victim has been identified as Daniel Ray Wetherell.

No further information is available at this time.

The City is requesting, “…that the family be allowed to grieve during this difficult time.” The information released by the City continues, “[We] will release funeral information when it becomes available.”
