Remsen, Iowa — A man who was driving a semi registered to a Sheldon feed mill has died in a collision between Remsen and Kingsley.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says that they believe that a 2008 Dodge pickup pulling a utility trailer, driven by 36-year-old Aaron Moon of Westfield, was eastbound on C-44 and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 140. It says Moon’s vehicle was struck by a northbound semi driven by 61-year-old Terry Hainzinger of Fenton.

According to the accident report, the collision of the two vehicles caused the utility trailer that Moon’s vehicle was pulling to become unattached from his pickup and travel into the southbound lane of travel on Highway 140. The utility trailer was then struck by a semi registered to Deluxe Feeds of Sheldon, which had been southbound on Highway 140.

Moon and Hainzinger were transported to Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars where they were treated and released. The driver of the Deluxe Feeds semi was airlifted to Mercy Hospital by Mercy Air Care. The report says he later died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office says the driver’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.

They report that the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa DOT, and Merrill and Remsen Police Departments assisted them with the response to the crash.
