Spencer, Iowa — A verdict and a sentence have now both been rendered in the case of a Milford man who was accused of the robbery of Barb’s Corner near Everly in March of 2016.
Clay County authorities accused 41-year old Joshua Emerson Mandelkow of robbing Barb’s Corner while armed with a shotgun. Deputies made contact with a suspect vehicle about 15 minutes later, leading to contact with Mandelkow, who reportedly turned his shotgun on himself as they approached his vehicle. He was taken to Rochester, MN for treatment of his injuries. When he had recovered, Clay County authorities filed charges of First Degree Robbery, Going Armed With Intent, and Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon.
In the plea agreement, Mandelkow pled guilty to amended charges of Second Degree Robbery and Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon. The charge of Going Armed With Intent was dropped.
Judge Patrick Carr sentenced Mandelkow to a ten-year prison sentence, a fine of $1000, and a suspended fine of $1000 on the Second Degree Robbery charge; and a five-year prison term, a fine of $750 and a suspended fine of $750 on the Intimidation With A Dangerous Weapon charge. According to the Clay County Clerk of Court’s Office, the two sentences are to run consecutively for a total of 15 years.
