Master Gardeners, Others Help Feed The Hungry

Northwest Iowa — Master Gardeners in northwest Iowa have helped feed hungry people in northwest Iowa this year.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Horticulture Educator and Regional Food Coordinator Margaret Murphy says the 1,385 pounds of food was donated to ten different organizations throughout Lyon, O’Brien, Sioux and Osceola Counties during the summer and fall of 2018.

She says they took advantage of the availability of the grants.

According to Murphy, they expanded the program this year.

She says you can also donate produce from your own garden to help the “food security” of others when the gardeners are harvesting. In Rock Rapids, for instance, they harvest on Monday mornings.
