Des Moines, Iowa — MOC-Floyd Valley School District CAPS, or Center for Advanced Professional Studies, showcased their contributions to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education in Iowa at STEM Day at the Capitol last week.
The event, held at the State Capitol Building, was hosted by the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council and sponsored by Collins Aerospace.
MOC-Floyd Valley School District was one of 11 exhibitors that came together to share the work being done in Iowa to connect learning to careers in high demand STEM fields. These programs included STEM Scale-Up Programs, STEM BEST Program models, STEM Teacher Externships, Computer Science is Elementary project representatives and more.
The students showcased their experiences and the results they’ve achieved as part of the STEM BEST Program, which aims to build collaboration between schools and local businesses to create curriculum that prepares students for STEM careers.
Legislators visited with exhibitors to learn how Council programs are shaping tomorrow’s STEM leaders and creating career-linked learning opportunities for students.
