Northwest Iowa — If you haven’t yet filed your federal income tax forms for the 2020 tax year, you still have this weekend to get that job done.
For the second consecutive year, the Internal Revenue Service extended their normal April 15th deadline due to the pandemic. The filing deadline for this year is this coming Monday, May 17th.
The IRS urges taxpayers to file their tax forms via e-file, since most tax refunds associated with e-filed returns are issued within 21 days.
Monday is also the deadline for paying federal income tax payments for 2020, with no interest or penalties, regardless of the amount owned. According to the IRS, penalties, interest and additions to tax will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of Monday May 17th.
