Multiple Opportunities To Donate For Heroes Blood Drive

Sheldon, Iowa — This year, the annual “Heroes Behind The Badges Blood Drive” will be held on two different days in three different locations in Sheldon.

The drive pits two teams made up of Sheldon Emergency Services Departments against one another in a friendly competition to see which team can recruit the most blood donors for the drive. It’s the team of the Sheldon Police Department and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (or SCAT) against the team of the Sheldon Fire Department and Sheldon Emergency Management Agency (or EMA).

Ken Ver Steeg, Executive Director of the Community Blood Bank says they’ll be in Sheldon this Tuesday, February 6th from 12 to 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. He says in the morning they’ll be at Village Northwest Unlimited from 7:30 to 10:20, but he encourages people to go to Sanford Sheldon because it can get busy at the Village.

He tells us about that upcoming opportunity to give blood and vote for your favorite team of heroes.

Ver Steeg says the teams have historically been very close on numbers of donations and the record is pretty even. But he says last year was probably the biggest spread between scores. He says that as usual, this blood drive comes at a time when they are in need of blood.

Ver Steeg says there’s actually even a traveling trophy that one hero team or the other gets to keep for the next year.

Again, your opportunities to give blood are this Tuesday from 7:30 to 10:20 a.m. at Village Northwest Unlimited; from noon until 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, and Monday, February 19th at the Community Services Center in Sheldon from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and from 3 until 6 p.m.
