Sioux Center, Iowa — High school band students from three area Christian high schools will be among nearly four hundred Christian high school musicians to take part in a band festival in Sioux Center later this month.
According to Dordt College, the band students will represent schools in Indiana, Iowa , Michigan, Minnesota and South Dakota will venture to Dordt to participate in the biennial high school band festival on Friday April 12th.
Area schools taking part are Trinity Christian of Hull, Unity Christian of Orange City, and Western Christian of Hull. Other schools taking part include: Rapid City Christian, of Rapid City, South Dakota; Central Minnesota Christian of Prinsburg, Minnesota; Covenant Christian of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Heritage Christian of Dyer, Indiana; Sioux Falls Christian of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Southwest Minnesota Christian of Edgerton, Minnesota.
While at the festival, bands perform both individually and as a mass band. Dordt music faculty and members of the Gaudete Brass Quintet will lead master classes and sectionals in the afternoon prior to the mass band rehearsal. The interim director of the Dordt College Concert Band, Dr. Daniel Baldwin, and two members of Gaudete Brass will also work with individual bands in coaching sessions in the morning. Dordt music students will also participate in the mass band in the evening.
According to Dordt, the day will include a mass concert at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium and conclude with the mass band performance in the De Witt Gymnasium at Dordt.
