New Sheldon Water Operator Hiring Approved By Council

Sheldon, Iowa — During Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council meeting, the council approved the hiring of Scott Ruden as full-time Water Operator, at an hourly salary of $23.02 plus benefits. Ruden is scheduled to begin work on November 30th.

Ruden’s hiring was part of the Consent Agenda, as was the appointment of Rachael Becker to the Airport Commission for a term expiring on June 30, 2026. Becker will replace her husband, Dr. Ryan Becker on the Airport Commission.  Dr. Becker has served two terms on that body, reaching the end of his service due to term limits.

In new business,  the Council held a public hearing during Wednesday’s meeting, on proposed amendments to the Zoning Code.  Following the hearing, the Council voted unanimously to pass the zoning code amendments on to a second reading, and scheduled it for their first regular meeting in December.

In other action, the Sheldon City Council set a special council meeting for next Wednesday, November 22nd, to consider the Community Development and Housing Needs Assessment.
