Sheldon, Iowa — If you’re interested in running for either the Sheldon City Council or the Sheldon Community Schools Board of Education, there’s still time to get your nominating petitions signed and returned.
For Sheldon City Council there are three seats up for grabs this November. Ward 1 councilman Pete Hamill’s seat at the council table will be up for grabs, as will Brad Hindt’s 3rd Ward council position, and Wayne Barhona’s At-Large council seat.
Barahona, along with Mayor Greg Geels was elected in a special election this past May. The unexpired term filled by Geel’s does not expire this year, while Barahona’s does.
KIWA talked to the three incumbent council members whose seats will be on November’s ballot. Councilman Pete Hamill has already filed his papers to seek reelection, while Hindt and Barahona both say they have yet to file their papers, but both intend to seek reelection.
The map below shows how the wards are laid out for the city council. Ward 1 is everything east of Washington Avenue, and Ward 3 lies west of Washington Avenue and south of 8th Street.
