Northwest Iowa Community College Buys Marcus Hotel Property

Marcus, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC), based in Sheldon, is taking the next steps in developing the Marcus Regional Center and Career Academy, including the recent purchase of a building that will serve as the future home of the center.

NCC officials tell us the initiative, supported in part by a $1 million Career Academy Incentive Fund (CAIF) grant from the State of Iowa, is an investment that reflects a shared commitment among state and local leaders, NCC, and partnering school districts to strengthen rural workforce pipelines and expand access to career-connected learning.

NCC says they have successfully purchased a building in Marcus that will serve as the future home of the Regional Center. The facility is the former Hometown Guesthouse hotel, located along Highway 3 on the south side of Marcus. With the property now secured, the College will begin the planning, design, and necessary renovations to prepare the facility for its new educational purpose.

NCC officials tell us the Regional Center is expected to welcome students in Fall 2027, offering high- demand pathways in Education, Welding, Healthcare, and Design Technology. Through these pathways, students will have opportunities to earn valuable credentials such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), OSHA-10 Safety, and CPR/First Aid. Students will gain hands-on experience in supportive learning environments that help build confidence and clarify career direction.
