Sheldon, Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) in Sheldon is inviting the public to a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of their new student housing complex, Sioux Hall.
NCC officials tell us the event will take place on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 9:00-10:00 a.m., with remarks beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 609 College Drive in Sheldon.
According to the officials, the addition of Sioux Hall marks a significant milestone for NCC, as they now have a residence hall named after every county in their official service area: Cherokee, Osceola, O’Brien, Lyon, and Sioux. This new facility holds 48 students, increasing the total number of students living on campus to 226.
They say that a unique feature of Sioux Hall is its event space, available for the public to rent. The space includes a full kitchen with serving counters that open to both the interior and the adjoining patio, a large meeting room with sliding doors that provide open access to a spacious outdoor patio with picnic tables. According to NCC, the event space is ideal for community gatherings, family celebrations, and other events. Additionally, the complex offers a large meeting room for group gatherings for sports teams, creating a hub for student and community activities.
They tell us the opening of Sioux Hall, along with the updated Dining Services that opened last year, are all part of a strategic initiative to enhance student life and support the launch of their men’s and women’s soccer teams this past fall.

Due to the dorms, parking that’s normally available might be a bit of a walk. However, we will have special event parking set up for the morning, so the walk won’t be too far. Please use Entrance B off Highway 18 and park on the east side of the dorms. Sioux Hall is located on the southeast corner of the dorm complex, and you’ll see NCC flags marking the parking area.
Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy refreshments and tours of the new facilities. The new student housing offers a range of amenities, including:
- Free access to the Lifelong Learning & Recreation Center
- Study rooms and computer labs
- Free laundry facilities, high-speed internet, and parking
- A recreation room with a big screen TV and available game check-out
- Air conditioning and a vending area
- Gaming room with eight stations, gaming consoles, and personal connections for students
- Safe zones in the basement of Osceola and Sioux Halls for inclement weather
