Northwest Iowa Housing Projects (Including Two In Sheldon) Get Tax Credits

Des Moines, Iowa — Some housing projects in northwest Iowa will receive a share of $38 million in workforce housing tax credits through the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

A project in Sheldon involving the renovation of three vacant buildings for the “Jackrabbit Upper Story Development” project is among the projects awarded the credits. The project will create five rental units offering easy access to restaurants, shopping and other amenities in the city’s downtown area. It will receive $156,800 in credits. We’re told this is the name for the project to create apartments above the old Sheldon Vision Care building next to Van Maanen’s Radio Shack downtown on 9th Street, as well as two of the “HC Lane” buildings across the street — the former location of “A Country Florist,” part of which was recently occupied by Sweet Puddle Jumpers, before they moved. Note that the project does NOT include the former Wolff’s building on the corner. That is owned by Whitehouse Properties of Le Mars.

Meanwhile, Prairie Trail Village II in eastern Sheldon was awarded a million dollars in credits.

In Sioux Center, Vision Builders’ Country View Heights East also received a million dollars in credits, as did a project by Big Sioux Properties in Hawarden. A project in Cherokee also received a million dollars in credits.

A total of 59 housing projects were awarded the tax credits. State officials say the projects will create more than 2,000 residential units.
