Council Tables Nuisances & Dangerous Buildings Discussion

Sheldon, Iowa — A discussion on nuisances and dangerous buildings was listed on Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council agenda, but that discussion has been put off until their next meeting because the council has not had a response from contacts that have been made concerning the building on Iselin Avenue.

On another topic, the Council gave the airport board their approval to apply for a $3.6-million grant.  This would be a grant that would pay one hundred percent of the cost of improvement including the runway and taxiway.  No local matching funds would be required.

The council also approved the wages of $62-thousand a year for the new Street Superintendent, Brice Mosier. Mosier, who has been with the street department for 27 years will replace Dave Van Beest who is retiring at the end of December.  And, the council approved the employment agreement with the new City Manager, Sam Kooiker. They also approved his wages at $105-thousand per year. Kooiker will begin his duties as city manager on December 5th.

And Mayor Meendering announced that October 30th has been designated for the observance of Halloween in Sheldon.  This decision was made to avoid conflicts with church activities on Wednesday evening, October 31st.  Downtown trick or treating will begin at 4:30 with residential trick or treating from five until seven p.m.

The mayor also reminds everyone that parking on City streets from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. will not be allowed beginning November 1st.
