NWS Trims Number Of NCC Storm Watch Classes To One — March 21

Sheldon, Iowa — With the coming of spring we also prepare for severe weather season. If you’d like to know more about severe weather, there is a Storm Watch class scheduled for March 21st at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

And Warning Coordination Meteorologist Peter Rogers with the National Weather Service’s Sioux Falls Office tells us it’s kind of a momentous occasion.

The class will be at 7 p.m. in building A, Room 116. Rogers says that in the past, there were four classes on two separate days every spring at NCC. But this year they have pared it down to just one class.

If you would like more information about a class that is not at NCC, including some virtual classes coming up in April, click here.

He tells us what people can learn by attending a Storm Watch class.

Rogers says you don’t have to already be a storm spotter, and you don’t have to be with a public safety organization — anyone can attend. He says others that may want to consider attending include those in charge of planning or safety for their company or manufacturing plant.

He gives us an overview.

And yes, Rogers says, they will tell you how to interpret threatening-looking clouds.

You can let them know you’re coming by clicking here or by calling NCC at 800-352-4907, or from the Sheldon area, you can call 324-5061.
