One Retirement, Two Promotions At Sioux County Sheriff’s Office

Orange City, Iowa — One retirement and two promotions have been announced at the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Dan Altena says that Jail Commander Judy Plendl will retire effective December 31, 2019. He says she has been an employee with the sheriff’s office since 1987. Altena tells us Plendl has served in a variety of roles. He says that in 2005, after he had been recently elected, Sheriff Altena appointed Plendl to the position of Jail Commander.

The Sheriff says that in 2018 the Sioux County Jail won the “Best of the Best” jail award for medium-sized jails in Iowa. This was the first time Iowa had presented such an award. Altena says, “Plendl’s leadership was very instrumental in the jail receiving this accolade. It was based on administration, documentation, and cleanliness.”

Altena tells us Plendl’s replacement has been selected. He says Jailer Davis De Jong has been promoted to the position of Jail Commander. De Jong has been employed by the sheriff’s office as a jailer since January of 2009.

In other employment news from the sheriff’s office, Altena tells us Deputy Justin De Bruin has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

According to Altena, Deputy De Bruin has been employed at the sheriff’s office since October of 2005 and has been one of the canine officers at the sheriff’s office since 2006. Altena says DeBruin has received top awards at several National and Regional competitions, including the United States Police Canine Association.
