Orange City’s Kanaal Huis to Offer New Concept In Housing — 55+ Living

Orange City, Iowa — A new concept in housing for mature individuals is almost ready for occupancy in Orange City, and a ribbon cutting and open house have been planned.

Orange City Area Health System CEO Marty Guthmiller tells us about “Kanaal Huis,” which means “Canal House” in Dutch.

Guthmiller says the condos will not have any special care from the hospital, and no meals or any special services like are found in assisted living as part of their experience. He says it’s what they’re calling 55+ living, which is kind of a newer concept in northwest Iowa.

Guthmiller says it’s meant to simplify living and offer a little less clutter. He says it gives people the freedom to even head south for the winter if they want, and then come back to their unit whenever they want. He says the only services there will be driven by the residents themselves.

Guthmiller says there will be one more benefit to those who buy a condominium at Kanaal Huis.

The ribbon cutting and open house for Kanaal Huis will be on Tuesday, December 19th from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. Tours will be available all afternoon. He says they encourage people to come out and take a look, because it is kind of a new concept.
