Paullina, Iowa — A Paullina woman said her husband didn’t believe her when she called to tell him about her $30,000 lottery win.
The Iowa Lottery says 62-year-old Leslie Williams of Paullina says when she called him and told him, “He’s like ‘Yeah, right!’” She says her husband still didn’t believe her and said things like “You’re pulling my leg and “You’re joking, right?” Williams said she assured him this was indeed real.
According to the Lottery, Williams won the third top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “Triple 777 Max” scratch game. She bought her winning ticket at Casey’s in Alton a few weeks after her friend bought a ticket at the same store and won $500.
But Williams, a pharmacy technician, slipped the ticket in her purse and forgot about it until a few weeks later, when she pulled it out during a slow period at work and scratched it off.
She says when she did, she thought she was going to black out. She said her heart was racing and her hands were shaking.
After her co-workers verified it was a big winner, she says she called her husband, who began to believe her after she sent him a picture of the ticket.
Williams said she planned to save most of her winnings, but planned to buy an umbrella for their weekend home in Okoboji.
