Sheldon, Iowa — Resurfacing has been completed on the Highway 18 bridge west of Sanborn. Crews completed that resurfacing project over the weekend, and now have begun the resurfacing project for the stretch of Highway 18 between Sanborn and Sheldon.
Iowa Department of Transportation Engineer Steve McElmeel says the project is a resurfacing project from the Highway 18 & 60 junction in eastern Sheldon east to Sanborn. McElmeel talks about what the project consists of.
The bridge resurfacing portion of the project began in April of this year, and was just completed over the weekend. We asked McElmeel if there’s enough time this season to complete the Sanborn to Sheldon resurfacing project. He said the project is fairly close to being on schedule.
McElmeel says the project should be completed within a couple of months. Motorists should allow themselves a little extra travel time, though, since the traffic in the construction area will be reduced to one-lane, and a pilot car will lead vehicles through the area. McElmeel says the road will only be reduced to one lane for two miles at a time, however, to reduce inconvenience as much as possible for the motoring public.
