Northwest Iowa — The number of positive COVID tests continued to climb in the four-county area of O’Brien, Osceola, Lyon and Sioux Counties during the past seven days, according to information from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Last week, the IDPH reported a total of 68 positive COVID tests in this area, but this week that number has increased to 87. Sioux County had the most new positives, with 43, compared to 28 in the last report. Lyon County reports 21 new positives, down two from the last report. Osceola County reports 6 new positives this week, which is 5 more than the last report. In O’Brien County an additional 17 positives were reported, up 1 from the week before.
Thankfully, the death toll hasn’t increased in the four-county area for several weeks. That said, we’ve still lost 189 of our friends and neighbors to COVID since the pandemic began last year; 74 in Sioux County, 57 in O’Brien County, 41 in Lyon County, and 17 in Osceola County.
This week’s numbers show just 1 death in the entire state of Iowa from COVID in the past 7 days.
Of the people hospitalized in Iowa with COVID, officials say 82.4% haven’t been fully vaccinated, and 90.3% of those in ICUs weren’t fully vaccinated.
