Seasons Center To Host Suicide Prevention Training This Week

Sibley, Iowa — During Suicide Prevention Week, Seasons Center for Behavioral Health will host a suicide prevention training Sibley.

This free training will cover the evidence-based curriculum of Question, Persuade, Refer, a 2-hour basic suicide prevention course, and will occur on September 9th.

Question, Persuade, Refer (or QPR) outlines 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The QPR Institute states that “just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans are saying ‘Yes’ to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor.”

The training will be held in Sibley this Thursday, September 9th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Lantern Coffeehouse and Roastery in Sibley, in partnership with the Lantern Coffeehouse
and Roastery and Bailey’s Lodge. Online registration is available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/167484668151.

In addition to the session in Sibley, the training will also be conducted in Spencer, at Hope Reformed Church, on Friday, September 10th, from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Online registration for the Spencer training is available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/168490344155.

“Suicide is preventable. Talking about it prevents it. Learning the signs and symptoms
prevents it. Knowing what to say and how to intervene prevents it,” says Taylor Prather,
Prevention and Education Coordinator with Seasons. “QPR teaches basic, life-saving skills that everyone should know. The more people we have trained in our communities, the more lives we can collectively save.”
