Primghar, Iowa — (OCBTC) — For years the board that operates the Primghar Community Building has been working to upgrade the restroom facilities. The highest priority has been to make them ADA compliant.
The board advanced their effort in early 2019 by winning a $10,000 grant from O’Brien County Foundation toward the project. Since spring specific plans were drawn and bids for the project were solicited from local contractors. Finally at the January 8 City Council meeting some actionable information was reported to the council about the project.
Clara Black reported on behalf of the Primghar Community Building board. Among the information she provided was that only one contractor bid on the project. No name was given. The bid amount came in at $43,500. And that amount did not include electric work or plumbing fixtures.
Black further reported that she would be sitting with the contractor to understand the itemized charges of the proposed estimate. The board will also expand their bid requests outside of contractors within the Primghar borders.
In an effort to meet funds requirements for this projects various fundraiser are ongoing. A pancake dinner was served on Sunday January 12 at the Primghar Community Building for a free will donation. Other fundraising events are under consideration. Donations to the project can be made to the Primghar Community Building and dropped off at City Hall.
According to the terms of the Foundation grant, the project must be completed by the time a new application round begins, around March 2020. A short extension can be requested. If all fail, the grant award must be returned.
