Primghar, Iowa — A Primghar man and a Sheldon business have been selected for the O’Brien County Value Added Agriculture Steering Committee’s Value Added Ag Hall of Fame.
The committee has recognized an outstanding citizen each year with the Value Added Ag Hall of Fame Award since 2001. A business category was added last year. This year, Rodd Holtkamp of Primghar was honored as the 2017 recipient of the Value Added Ag Hall of Fame Award, and O’Brien County Implement of Sheldon was honored as the 2017 business recipient of the Value Added Ag Hall of Fame Award in a ceremony last week.
According to the Ag Steering Committee, Holtkamp has been instrumental in helping young farmers and young families obtain adequate financing through his work as a banker. His nomination says he has also committed his time and talents to leadership and music ministries in his church as well as various community and county boards and committees. It says he’s an enthusiastic supporter of his family, church, community, O’Brien County and the agriculture industry.
The O’Brien County Value Added Ag Committee selected O’Brien County Implement for their exceptional service to the agriculture industry in O’Brien County as well as their dedication to the community. Their nomination says their dealership, service and parts departments utilize customer-driven business practices that demonstrate the honesty and work ethic that is so highly-valued among the industry they serve. It says the owners are active in their community, serving on various church, community, and industry boards and committees. The nomination also says that as a business, O’Brien County Implement has been generous with their gifts and service to meet community needs.
O’Brien County Agriculture Hall of Fame Nominations are accepted year-round and those received are saved and considered in subsequent years if that nominee does not win.
