Propane Users Urged To Be Thinking Ahead

Des Moines, Iowa — Those who use propane to heat their homes and farmers who use the fuel for grain drying are being urged to plan ahead.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says now is a good time to top off your tank. A press release from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says there is currently a strong supply of propane and prices are comparable to the start of last year’s heating season.

In the fall of 2019, Iowa experienced a shortage of propane as grain drying demands caused by a late planting season coincided with an early cold snap that increased livestock and home heating needs. Since then, Naig says his agency, various stakeholders and legislators have been meeting on a regular basis to anticipate and act on any issues with the propane supply.
