Property Tax Assessments and Valuation Changes Will Hit Your Mailbox Soon

O’Brien County, Iowa — If you own real estate in O’Brien County you’ll be getting something in the mail in the next few days from the O’Brien County Assessor.

Assessor Seth Postma says the assessment rolls and valuation changes were mailed out on April 1st.

Postma tells us how his office arrives at the assessed value of a property.

He says there is a formula they use to calculate your actual property tax amount.

Postma says the state “rollback” is a percentage of your property’s assessed value. He says there are various reasons for a change in a property’s assessed value.

He says if you disagree with the assessed valuation of your property, you DO have recourse.
